Geotagging your location on Instagram is one of the most undervalued ways to generate traffic to your profile. It can increase post engagement by up to 79%. By adding your location to your Instagram posts and Instagram Stories it allows you to be seen by other users than the ones that already follow you.

Whilst building your Instagram following, your account might not get that much traffic outside of your own followers. However, whilst you’re growing and waiting for your posts to conquer the Instagram algorithm, by embracing Geotagging you can get your account out there to the masses and help grow the reach of your content.

So how does this work? When posting or creating a story, make sure you include a Location tag. Think about who you want to target. Do you want to reach a London audience? Or cultivate a more local audience? If you want to showcase your Workshop or Store, use this location, make people aware of where you are.

However, if you want to make a point about your business, then Geotagging can help you with this too! If you are a photographer, for example, and want to highlight that you can service destination wedding couples, then location tag the wedding destination location, when posting each picture about this wedding.

If you know your perfect couple is likely to be looking at specific venues, then use this Venue’s tag, to hop in on any searches that may come up about this Venue. Also, you may also appear in a wider location search about the region of this venue too. For example, if you tag St Michael’s Manor, you will show up in the location feed about St Michael’s Manor and also most likely, St Albans too.

Think about who are you trying to reach and which location will suit your image best? Just think of it as a tiny location advert.

Keep in mind that there will be a lot of competition for big cities, so often more specific can be more effective. But you can also get lucky, by hopping in on a super popular location tag.

So, now, whenever someone searches for “London” or the name of the Wedding Venue, they will see your wonderful image pop up, tap on it, and hopefully start to take a closer look at you! Join the wider conversation.

Remember, your image will have more competition, so make sure it stands out!
